Literature Text

:“Every day people die without ever finding their one true love.”

Isn’t that tragic?

What?

That quote.

It doesn’t even give a number.

So?

How can it be tragic? We don’t even know how many people die.

If even one person a day dies without finding their one true love it would be tragic.

Enough people a day die that I’m sure at least one person a day does die without
finding true love.

That’s tragic.

Truly, it isn’t.

How can you be so cold?

Who says I’m being cold? I’m just stating truth.

Opinion is not fact.

I said truth, not fact.

A personal truth?

Yes.

Then an opinion. Pause Why don’t you think it’s a tragedy?

True love, for many people, is a myth.

A myth?

Out of six billion people in the world, to find the one person that’s you “true” love is only a day dream. You’ll never meet everyone, so you’ll never know if you’ve really found your one true love. That make it a myth, a fallacy. Impossible.

That’s more depressing than the quote.

Perhaps, but it’s a fact that you’ll never meet every one of the six billion people in the world.

Therefore, you’ll never know if you’ve truly found your true love?

Correct.

Then everyone can die without finding their true love.

Maybe, but just loving someone might be enough.

What do you mean?

If you love someone more than life itself, your most precious person, than they can become your true love.

I though you said you could never find your true love.

I said you can never be sure, not that you can’t find them.

I’m so confused.

Hmm.

Why do you laugh at that?

It’s a matter of perspective, so your opposing emotional view… interests me.

You mean amuses you.

I never said that.

You didn’t have to.

You’re romantic.

You’re logical to a fault.

So I am.

I think I like that.

You think?

I think I like you.

You think?

Of course I think!

That isn’t what I meant.

Kiss me!

What?

Kiss me!

Why?

I want to find out if I truly like you.

A kiss will tell you that?

I don’t know.

Then no.

What if you’re my one true love?

We’ll never really know, will we?

Would you have me meet every person in the world before you’ll be with me?

I would have you know me. Only once you know me can you tell if you love me. A kiss won’t help you know me.

Then I want to get to know you.

Over coffee?

Tea.

Crumpets?

You mock me.

I tease.

Lunch?

Lunch it is.

Then let’s go, so I can find out if I have found my one true love.

Then you won’t have to die without knowing him

Assuming you’re him.

Yes, assuming.
I wrote this a while ago, but wanted to post it on here. I have a hard time writing nowadays, but I was proud of this because it seemed interesting. I hope it interests others too.
